It's a zoo in there

We went to the Zoo for my son's 3rd birthday. Mrs. Dave and I took the day off to take him there. His party was the weekend before, but we wanted to do something special for his actual birthday as well. We had a lot of fun. Here are some photos:

1. Two cool dudes heading for the monkey house (where we belong).

This is a relatively new exhibit for the Polar Bears. The bears have been there for years in a very old habitat that was basically concrete shaped rocks surrounded by water. You could say this is similar, but the point of view is much better! And they have a better area to move around in away from the water. Polar Bears are impressive creatures in photos, but when one is just on the other side of the glass from you, you sense how much you underestimate their size. This one was playing with a big plastic barrel while we were there, having fun and cooling off. At one point (from a different perspective) we saw him/her jump from the rocks onto the barrel and it made a spectacular splash! It must have been something to see from the angle from which these photos were taken:

This is intimidating, even with super-strong glass between you and the bear.

But then he just gets goofy, looking at a little girl on her dad's shoulders.

Here he is playing with the barrel. He just rolled over on top of it. He was having a ball!

There are other photos, but these were the most impressive of the bunch. Look out soon for photos from our trip to the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC!

Great shots, Mister Dave. Our zoo sucks. I mean, we got a monkey house and polar bears but no access to 'em like this. Love the bear.

Thanks man. It is a neat exhibit. The old one was just depressing. It just looked so uncomfortable for the bears. I'm not sure why, but the other polar bear was kept in the other side of the exhibit. S/he really wanted to get to the other side. Apparently there are two ways to get to the other side and it kept rambling back and forth between them. It was a hot day for a polar bear, I'm sure. But the poor thing was roaring pitifully and drooling like crazy. But then we noticed there was a pool on that side, too, though not as big. Weird.

So, do I take the lack of celebration to mean we officially won't be seeing you at the conference? That would really be too bad. I wanted to beat up on Dopey for being better than I am at stuff. ;-)

Looks that way. I submitted a request. I think they humoured me by even letting it get that far. But since it's not officially over I still can't say for absolute certain.

Time to put the pressure on, the early-bird (hey, come up with a catchy pun for that and it might influence them to let you go - given your field of work, you know) deadline is tomorrow, don't let them forget it! If nothing else, hopefully it will give you an answer one way or the other!

Good luck!

You read that Mrs. Dave isn't coming to the conference didn't you? Oh yeah, we'll have some fun...

Uh, yeah...my body is a temple, Here are my parishoners.

I am working on it, but the photo is a little misleading. One day I'll look as good as that photo would lead you to believe. ;-)
